When author's write pieces of writing the always make a purpose for writing. I feel like the author's purpose for writing the poems "Big Yellow Taxi" and "Field Below" was to inform the reader that you don't know what you have until it's gone or that you should respect what you have because one day it might be taken from you. The tone of "Big Yellow Taxi" is respectful and grateful. I think this because she loves nature and was thankful for the time that she had with nature. When I read this poem the mood was sad and sympathy. But I think that the tone of "Field Below" is sad and heartbroken. But I also feel like the tone was sorrow and sadness.
The difference between the mood and tone in the two poems were different in the songs because in "Big Yellow Taxi" when you are reading the poem it seems sad but when you are listening to it the tempo is fast and the person singing it seems very happy. But in " Field Below" the tempo is very slow and the tone of voice in the musicians voice is sad. Just like in the poem. I think that this shows that even though the poem might be sad and glumly doesn't mean that the song can't have a fast happy tempo. I feel like "Big Yellow Taxi" should have had a slower tempo but it means that the author was ok with it being faster which she is then alright with the problem that she was/ is going through. But in " Field Below" I felt like the tempo and tone of voice fit the poem very well and it's what I thought it would sound like.

Ice Cold
Author’s Note: We are writing this piece to show our knowledge of creating parodies. We are doing so by creating a parody to the poem Mother to Son by Langston Hughes and putting it along with the book Waiting for You by Susan Colasanti.
Marissa,
My life ain’t no calm walk on the beach;
I’ve been waiting in the ocean blue,
Waves come,
Same as they pass.
But when the right wave comes,
There is no mistaking
And that wave was you.
And while there may be rocks
In this water I am waiting in
The wait is nothing
Compared to you
So go forth Marissa,
Wade into the water,
And explore,
What this world had to hold.
Come wade out in the water,
Marissa,
And no longer will you be,
Ice cold.
This poem was written by Nash to Marissa and shows a great relation to how Nash feels about Marissa and how he wants her to feel the same way. The tone of this poem is persuading, it is just this because of the way Nash is trying to convince Marissa to give him a chance. The mood in the poem is just as well because we were trying to write this poem in a sense that Nash is trying to show Marissa how much he cares about her and convince her that maybe she could care about him the same way.

Response for “Mother to Son”
Author’s Note: This is a short response to the poem “Mother to Son” It will include the mood and tone of the poem as well as examples of figurative language.
“Life for me ain't been no crystal stair.” This was one of the ways that the author showed figurative language in the poem “Mother to Son” by Langston Hughes. I think that this is being related to people that make mistakes, because no one can be more prefect then a crystal stair case. The overall mood and tone of the poem is clamming but meaningful. The mother wants to stay calm about telling her son about not to make the mistakes she made but very meaningful because she wants her son to really think about how one little thing can change everything. Think before you act because no mother wants to see her child suffer like they had to. Just because of one choice they made, that lead to a mistake.

Main Idea about "Something like Fate"
Something like Fate
Author’s Note: This piece of writing is to show my understanding of Main Idea/ Theme. My goal with this piece of writing is to score an overall 10. But I also need a 9 in introductions. Overall this piece of writing will meet both of my goals.
You’re reading a book; do you know what the main idea of it is? Well in the book “Something like Fate” there are many main ideas about the book. Some of those main ideas are loss of friendship, relationships, and trust. All of these are things that you deal with every single day in one way or another.
When you think of trust what do you think of? Well when I think of it I think of not lying and being able to believe my friends and family when they tell me things. Throughout the book Lani has to deal with her best friend lying to her about pretty much everything. But that isn’t the way that it used to be. Before Erin left for her summer camp she was happily in a strong relationship with her boyfriend Jason. Erin would tell Lani everything about her and Jason, but when Erin left she made the mistake of telling Lani to hang out with Jason while she is gone because she knows how lonely Jason can get.
After that summer of Erin being gone at summer camp everything has changed. Erin doesn’t send letters to Lani anymore; she also isn’t telling Lani that Jason broke up with her. Lani doesn’t know why she won’t tell her because she already knows. And the reason why she knows is because Jason has now moved into Lani. Lani doesn’t know what to do she likes him but she could never hurt her best friend. Even though she deserves it because of how much she has been lying and keeping things from her. Lani decides to give Jason a try. When Erin got back to school after her summer camp she couldn’t believe her and sent out a massive email to everyone saying that Lani is a lying boyfriend stealer. After that summer Lani and Erin are no longer best friends.
Even though Erin is furious about Lani and Jason dating, Lani doesn’t care. She continues to date him and spend every second that she can with him. She thought that they had a perfect relationship. But it got complicated when Lani and Erin became friends again. Erin asked Lani if she could not see Jason anymore. Lani was completely crushed when Erin asked her that. Lani didn’t know what to do because she finally got her best friend back but in order to stay friends she has to stay away from Jason, her first love. In the end Erin finally realizes that she can’t keep them apart anymore because their love is just too strong to keep them separated.
In conclusion, I think that Erin made the right choice to not keep them apart any more. I mean she was destroying a perfect relationship. After that day when Erin watched Jason go up to Lani and kiss her and tell her that he loves her that’s when she realized that she couldn’t do this to them anymore. So, overall the main idea was to not stand in the way of something that could turn out to be a long lasting relationship. Don’t be jealous because someday everyone will find their soul mate.

Rules of the Road Quote
Author’s Note: The author’s purpose for writing this piece is to show my understanding of why quotes are important and why they have importance and provide relevant connections to the book “Rules of the Road”.
Have you ever had a famous quote you cherished and really liked? The book I am reading is “Rules of the Road”. “I’m not going to let some overgrown teenager tell me I can’t see my mother.” I picked this quote because during the chapter that it was used in Mrs. Gladstone was not able to see anyone that day. Her son had driven in to see her, Jenna told him that he wasn’t able see her today, and that’s when the quote was used. The importance of this quote is that Jenna was protecting her boss from what could have ended worse than it actually did. I think sense Mrs. Gladstone knew that her son wanted to talk about the shoe store so she told Jenna that she didn’t want to see anyone, but mostly her son. Although quotes are an important source used in your writing, you need supporting details as well.
Although, when Mrs.Gladstone’s son came in the next day he didn’t even ask to see her, he just barged in. The only reason why he wanted to talk to her is because the shoe store wasn’t doing well in business and he wanted to take over so the youth could make it more popular. Mrs.Gladstone wasn’t happy and the topic left her speechless. Then, Mrs.Gladstone asked Jenna what he said to her and Jenna just said that he told her not to get in his way of being able to see his mother.
However, Jenna and Mrs.Gladstone didn’t want to see her son, he showed up anyways. When he showed up I’m sure that they were in shock and didn’t know what to do. As he was talking to Mrs.Gladtstone about the shoe store it brought tears to her eyes. Jenna cares very much about her boss and it probably wasn’t easy seeing her cry, although Jenna didn’t quite understand why Mrs.Gladstone was actually crying. I mean it’s just a shoe store but it’s the store that Mrs.Gladstone had started just her and her son when he was little. My guess would be that she has a lot of memories from those good times. When her son was younger and wanting to help her run it and not just take over the store.
On the other hand, if I were in Jenna’s place and my bosses son told me that he isn’t going to let some overgrown teenager tell him that he can’t see his mother I would have gotten upset and stood up for myself. I would never let someone talk to me like that because every person deserves respect including myself. Even though Jenna knew in the book that Mrs.Gladstone just didn’t want to talk to her son I think I would have just told him that she didn’t want to see him at the moment, but if I did that I would probably feel terrible after the fact because it was none of my business.
In addition, next time someone says a mean, rude and not necessary comment to you stand up for yourself don’t just stand there like Jenna did. Think to yourself, do I deserve more respect? Even though the importance of this quote was that Jenna was a strong person and stood up for her boss I think that there is more behind it. I think that it could also mean that Mrs.Gladstone’s son has no respect for younger kids, which is never a good thing in my opinion.

Character Description
Author’s Note: This piece of writing is to show my understanding of how I can describe a character from a novel. The character I’m going to describe is Marisa. She is the main character in the book waiting for you.
Marisa is a shy, smart, low self esteemed person. You could say that she is like a star that doesn’t shine because she is a very talented girl but she doesn’t like to prove it. Marisa thinks that to be popular and for people to know her she needs a boy friend. All she wants is to be in a relationship which everyone knows about. Marisa wants to just fit in with the popular people. She wants to be pretty with long wavy blonde hair. But this will never happen if she continues talking to only her two close friends. She needs to move on and try new things. But she is taking an art class and the guy she likes sits next to her. All of a sudden all she can think about is Derek. Can’t sleep at night, can’t stay focused in school and can’t stop thinking about him. Could this be a sign of true love? Could this be the one that she has been waiting for? But she will only find out if she builds up the nerve to talk to him.
Marisa is a straight A student. She tries her best to get good grades because she thinks that her job is the only thing she is going to have to look forward to when she gets older. But there is more, or at least in my opinion. Things that you have to look forward to in the future are meeting a person you want to spend the rest of your life with, starting a family and maybe even being a huge success with your job.
One of the reasons why I think Marisa wants to be in a relationship is because she doesn’t think that she is a pretty and athletic girl. Marisa has brownish blonde hair, glasses, and blue eyes. But not the best sense in her style choices. Dark washed jeans and a different color t-shirt every day. She probably wants her boy friend to tell her how pretty she is, how she is good at sports, and that she is a very smart girl. The only people that tell her this are her parents and they are pretty much obligated to say those things to her. Over all I think that Marisa is a beautiful, amazing and independent person. But she needs to come out of her shell and show her true colors.
